
A Fine Artist, Art Historian and Musician
Born: May 17, 1951, Sean Crum Has been a professional artist, etcher,printmaker, art teacher, art historian and musician since 1976. His Irish grandmother was a fine artist and has passed down this heredity to his sister (an illustrator of children's books) and himself.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Cleveland State University and a Master of Arts degree from Case Western Reserve University.

 "I started drawing when I was two,making up my own books and illustrating them. I have always loved history, especially the Middle Ages. For the last few years, Medieval Art and subject matter have preoccupied me. All through school I was drawn to printmaking. Like a medieval knight on a quest. I made it my goal to establish an etching studio when I became a professional. I have realized that quest. |

As a Professional artist and art teacher since 1976 , Sean has exhibited in numerous shows. He has received awards for his works from the American Scholastics Association, Jostens Publishing House, The Beck Center for the Arts, Case Western Reserve University, Cooper School of Art, The North Ridgeville Arts Council, The Sheffield Lake Arts Association and Bay Crafters Gallery.
Sean has contributed graphic designs to Jostens Publishing House, Charter One Bank, First Federal of Lakewood Bank, Cleveland Magazine and North Ridgeville City Schools.
Some of his works are in the collections of Higbee's Department Store (Now Dillard's), WVIZ PBS Broadcasting Co., Cleveland, Ohio, The North Ridgeville Arts Council, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland State University, and the Cleveland Institute of Art.
He has been featured in articles from Cleveland Magazine, The Plain Dealer, The Cleveland Press, The Lorain Journal, The Avon Lake Press, The North Ridgeville Press & Light, and West Life . His art has been featured on TV by newscaster, John Herrington of WKYC TV3 Cleveland, Ohio, and also featured on the Morning News Show of WEWS TV5 Cleveland, Ohio.
He has received favorable reviews from art critics such as Helen Cullinan, Steven Litt from the Plain Dealer, Cynthia Schuster-Eakin of The West Life, Amy Ginn of The Avon Lake Press and Carol Klear of The North Ridgeville Press & Light.
Sean has conducted tours at the Cleveland Museum of Art and has given several workshops and seminars for a variety of organizations.
He has also served as judge for several professional and students art shows.
A teacher of art, art history and layout design for over 24 years at North Ridgeville High School in northeastern Ohio. He is also a musician and has been playing lead guitar in Cleveland area bands for over 30 years.
Sean works with many different mediums but his favorite, at this time in his life, is working with etchings. Many of his etchings are displayed in local area galleries such as; The Pentagon in Cleveland Hts., Bay Crafters in Bay Village and Bateau Lavoir in the historical Tremont area west of Downtown Cleveland.
Known for his unique style and use of different techniques in water colors, pencil, oil, pastels and acrylics, his latest works include a variety of medieval etchings depicting various scenes of St. George, knights, helms, castles, musicians and dragons. He is currently working on a series of etchings depicting the great Joan of Arc. Check back soon for a listing of this series.
